Regulator Information
Project Equity, under the jurisdiction of both the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), meets all regulatory requirements for safety, power quality, and cost-effectiveness. Managed by the Caribbean Basin Power Authority (CBPA), a Puerto Rico-based non-profit, the project is designed to ensure reliable, non-discriminatory power delivery comparable to that on the mainland. With a focus on reducing both restoration time and costs in the wake of future disasters, Project Equity aims to provide a more resilient energy infrastructure for Puerto Rico.
Regulator Compliance
Fully compliant with FERC and NERC standards, Project Equity guarantees high-quality and redundant power delivery. Every aspect of the project adheres to strict safety and power quality regulations. Under the management of CBPA, the initiative not only ensures operational excellence but also seeks to minimize the impact of future disasters by improving recovery times and lowering associated costs.

Safety and Quality Standards
Project Equity is governed by both FERC and NERC regulations, ensuring a power delivery system that is non-discriminatory, safe, and reliable. A key feature of the project is the installation of underground transmission systems at six strategic locations across Puerto Rico. By placing critical infrastructure underground, the project significantly enhances the resilience of the island’s power grid, making it better equipped to withstand extreme weather events and reducing the risk of widespread outages.
Environmental Impact
To protect Puerto Rico’s natural resources, a thorough environmental impact assessment will be conducted before project implementation. This assessment will ensure minimal disruption to marine ecosystems, coastal environments, and surrounding communities. CBPA remains committed to employing environmentally sustainable practices throughout the project, safeguarding both the island’s energy future and its ecological well-being.
